No that’s not it. But you’re close. Just above your top layer in your layer dialog is the word lock. Next to it is a little box you can tick. Tick and and then the alpha channel is locked.
If you want to have a look at how it works, I use it in my wilber text tutorial.
(Not trying to spam, just trying to help)
If you want to do something like blur the layer later, then unlock the alpha channel again, otherwise your blur won’t go right.

@Silvereye3 You can if you use the free select tool, but it’s very hard and sloppy. Haha…..hard and sloppy….

@Pieter373 When you freeze-frame at :19 it says iShowU HD. It’s only for Mac though.

When you do that you cannot do anything on the transparency in that layer. So for instance, it enables you to fill in a shape with a different colour without filling in the whole layer. Use it when possible, it gives much cleaner results than alpha to selection.
