Create a Spray with Gimp (Import, Resize, add Transparency) QUICK & EASY
This tutorial will show you how to quickly & easily create a spray by using Gimp to import an image, resize, and add a transparent background. This works for all Half-Life 2 and Orange Box Engine games, ie HL2, Team Fortress 2, Left for Dead, Counter Strike: Source, Day of Defeat Source, etc. Gimp is a free and Open Source Photoshop alternative for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This is screwing me over, for Left 4 Dead I need specific height/widths, but GIMP keeps changing it up as soon as I press OK.

Hmph.I’ve done this, made a 256×256 .tga with transparent background etc, but when I spray in game the quality is about 1/2 the quality of the image in the gimp (I have textures on very high). The file itself is still high quality when I go back to edit it in the gimp, any idea’s on getting my image better quality?

It’s in the advanced multiplayer options.
Also you need high or very high on textures, or it will looks like crap.

Most likely you have decal limit set to 0. Took me hours to figure that one out lol.

Same images work in TF2, HL2, and L4D for me. Upload your non-working image, and I will have a look at it.

Well in fact it doesn’t worked perfectly. I go in the multi player panel, I import my spray, but in game when I’m spraying, it doesn’t do anything, I just can hear the spray sound but there’s nothing sprayed on the wall.

What is the original image resolution?
Do you have your game graphic settings high enough to see the image at full res in game?

There’s an other tut to help you. Type “source spray” or “team fortress spray” and a guy show you how to proceed.
