Cool jungle text effect in GIMP (or mother of pearl in silver text effect)
GIMP tutorial on how to make a text effect. Step by step clear explantion. In this GIMP text effect tutorial I'm working with script-fu layer effects and with selection. You will learn how you can use selection to create borders on text and other cool effects. You'll also know how to the Gradient Difference techniques in GIMP to get really cool effects. @GIMPtricks yes…i went back through the whole tutorial and double checked everything…Whenever i hit lock alpha channel and applied the gradient nothing happened but when i unlocked the alpha channel the whole text was covered by the gradient

Did you put the mode in your gradient tool options back to normal?

when ever i duplicated the “Jungle” layer and tried to apply the gradient it wouldn’t do anything

well lucky you then =) and i couldnt believe the price tbh…. its ok though, i used random fonts as alternatives and i tried loads of gradients so its all good =) thanks

Really? The font came with my computer I think.
You can use any bold font though and try it with different colored gradients and see what the result is.

I just want to personally thank you for your tutorial videos, I must say I have had gimp and dabble with it since 1.0.
I played and didn’t really understand the power and capability. A month or so ago I decided to get serious and discovered your channel, I began with the hippie text and went through all you videos. I have learned an amazing amount since and it has rekindled my creativity. thank you so much. and please carry on. thank you

great tutorial, i especially love how the text looks at the end, it turns out great, shame that the font is 17pound to download, that sucks =(

@MyAccCheckmeOut Simple to fix, while on GIMP, hit “cmd-,” and on the window that pops up, select the “Window” tab and check the box saying “Click Through Inactive Windows”

aaaaand no I’m not gonna change the title just yet, because the surface of the text effect looks more like black mother of pearl then it does camouflage.

I agree with you about the preview, but then again the alternative is $700, or if you live in Europe almost double that amount.
I’m on windows and don’t need click twice on panels. Do have to activate the image window if it isn’t in order for most shortkeys to work. Can’t wait for 2.8 where there will be one window but I think they delayed the release date to end of the year because there was too much work still to be done and too little developers to do it.

It looks great, i love gimp only problem is it doesn’t show any sort of preview when you are making effects to it which makes it like blindly guessing. Also having to click twice on each panel is annoying on a mac.

i really like your videos, but i just wanted to mention that when you say the word “and” the volume gets really loud and it is very noticeable
